Are you fed up of working in an unorganised and messy office space? Or does your office not seem like an area you can concentrate in? Then fret no more because here are some top tips to turn your dull office space into an open work space.

Firstly, buy a plant. Nothing brightens up a space like plants and flowers. They bring a sense of life into your office space and help to create a relaxed atmosphere with their greenery. If your office tends to be messy, the first thing to do is to get rid of the clutter and come up with a recycling system. There is no sense putting all your paper work in the same bin as your plastic and general waste. Instead, get yourself a couple of colour coded bins and get organising.

Another key aspect of your office is its safety. If you have all your computer, printer, scanner and telephone wires hanging out you could have a serious accident. A simple solution is to bind the cords together. Most of the wires will be coming from the same machine, so use a rubber band or even string so they become one giant wire rather than a web of wires. Sometimes you might have to run one long wire from one room to another. If this happens, it's best to clamp the wires to the walls. You can buy ones that match the colours on your wall.

Add a filing cabinet to help clean up all the unorganised office paper you have. Once you have done this, you can organise everything else on your desk. Visit your local office supplies store and grab yourself some pen holders, boxes and trays to make a huge difference to your office space. Try to keep out of the habit of making a mess, it is easy to fall back into a bad routine.

If your office is dull and dark, add some colour in it to brighten the mood. Get a painting that you find puts you in a good mood, or a poster to make it visually interesting. Even when you're not at your desk you could have a colourful screensaver so your office looks appealing even when you're not there. Also put a clock on your wall to help with the decorative look. Why not find one that matches the rest of the decor so when your eyes feel strained from your computer screen, you have a few things to turn and look at. But make sure it is not a loud ticking clock!

Nothing else makes an office open up more than light. If you have ever been to IKEA and noticed why they use so many lamps and lights, it's because they make their products look good. If you work in a London office space, make the most of your views over the Thames to inspire you to work, so open up your windows and make sure they are not blocked. If you don't have much natural light, put a mirror in your office. It reflects the natural light that there is and will make your office seem brighter.

Your last bit of organisation is to purchase a calendar. Even with the latest technology these days, a simple calendar with a pen is the best way to organise your priorities. These are just ideas to make the most of your office space. It helps to reduce clutter, organise your time and most of all create a relaxed and appealing office for you to do your work in.
