The New Year signals new beginnings - out with the old and in with the new - and what better way to kick start this premise than with a complete clear out? Not only can you de-clutter your home and life, but you can also earn quick cash; after all, as the old adage goes ‘one man's rubbish is another's riches'. Here's five ways to earn cash from your unwanted clutter.

Online Auctions
If you have the time and inclination, online auctions could be the way to earn cash from your clutter - alongside big buy items, including cars and furniture, there are all sorts of nick-knacks such as mobile phone chargers, records and old cameras. Selling can take a little time; reputation is foremost - so you'll need to earn yourself one; product pictures are virtually essential for a good sale; plus you'll need to work out P&P in advance and then get the items posted once they've sold. Payment usually happens via PayPal, which as well as being secure can offer solutions when items don't turn up in the post, buyers renegade on their offer, or sellers don't deliver the goods.

Ecommerce Buyers
There are ecommerce sites that offer buy and sell services on all sorts of items - with quick cash at the ready, especially for valuables such as gold, jewelry and antiques. Some will even offer re-claim periods, where sellers can either buy their items back for the same price at the end of the term, or alternatively relinquish ownership. Shop around to get best deals; there are providers on the market who offer long loan periods, don't charge fees or interest, offer free valuations and collection.

High Street Pawnbrokers
The old fashioned pawnbrokers received a bit of a boost in the acceptability stakes in the ‘90's, when some well known chains entered the high street fracas. Sellers take their items in store for a valuation and the brokers offer cash in return for the item - sellers can buy their item back within a pre-agreed period, at the cost of the loan plus interest, alternatively once the buy-back period has passed the item is sold to the public.

Car Boot Sales
Wiley second hand shoppers will need to do a bit of research in their local area to get the best returns from car boot sales - knowing what you've got on your table and who might be interested is important, there are a number of sales which are renowned as the preying place of collectors and dealers - be prepared to bargain hard with buyers. You'll need to factor in the cost of pitch, plus transport and any additional costs incurred on the day i.e. table and rail hire.

Swap Shop
Whilst swapping won't actually ‘earn' you cash, it could save you money in the long run - clothes swap shops have become incredibly popular and are the perfect place to get rid of outgrown, never worn clothes that have been festering at the back of the draw. Gather up all the clothes you haven't worn in a year and swap them for an entirely new wardrobe, for free.
