Neil Looker, Head of Institutional Trading at FX Solutions (http://www.fxsolutions.com/), provides traders with an overview of forex market activity from London on 21st September 2011.
"Another day of volatile markets within the ranges with no resolution to the European debt crisis as we head into the FOMC.
The Italian downgrade from the Standard & Poor's was expected but the push lower in Euro/$ was caused by the negative outlook but with rumours of the ECB buying Spanish and Italian debt along with the SNB rumoured to be moving their EURO/CHF band to 1.2500. The euro took the weak stops out above 1.3730 before falling.
I'm expecting more range bound markets this side of the FOMC with, no doubt, more comments in Europe providing volatility. But in my mind QE3 will not happen tomorrow night (London time) from the FOMC and we will see the can kicked a little further down the street with a ‘ twist ‘ scenario from the Fed."
